IKD: The program for combating violence against women has not yet been fully operationalized and remains voluntary.

The Kosovo Institute of Justice (IKD) and the Kosovo Women’s Network (RrGK) recently convened a roundtable discussion focused on the forthcoming publication of the IKD report. The report, titled “Implementation of the National Program for Ending Violence Against Women in Kosovo (Analysis of the Legal Framework, Judicial Practice, and Institutional Implementation),” examines the comprehensive efforts to combat gender-based violence in the region. The discussion highlighted the multi-sectoral nature of addressing violence against women in Kosovo.

Participants included representatives from various public and civil society bodies, underscoring the systemic importance of the issue. Attendees represented key judicial and support structures, such as the Kosovo Judicial Council (KGJK), the Kosovo Correctional Service (SHKK), the Kosovo Probation Service (SHSK), and the Academy of Justice. Furthermore, the event brought together organizations critical to victim support, including the Office for Victim Protection and Assistance (ZMNV) and various shelters dedicated to violence victims.

The involvement of local and international organizations emphasized the collaborative effort required across multiple institutions to effectively implement the national program. The gathering served as a platform to discuss the findings within the IKD report, which analyzes the legal structures, judicial application, and institutional mechanisms currently in place to protect women in Kosovo. The participation confirmed the broad commitment of stakeholders to enhancing the legal and practical framework for ending violence against women throughout Kosovo.
