Independent Academic Union Expresses Disappointment with MASH’s Response to Education Legislation
Skopje – The Independent Academic Union (SPA) announced a meeting held on April 17th with Minister of Education and Science, Vesna Janevska, and representatives from the Ministry of Education and Science (MASH) at the Ministry’s headquarters. The meeting followed a formal request from SPA to initiate a dialogue concerning the proposed draft legislation impacting higher education, scientific research, and quality assurance standards. According to SPA, the purpose of the meeting was to present a series of suggestions for revisions to the draft laws.
However, the union stated that the majority of their proposals for improving the legislative text were not incorporated during the discussion. “Despite presenting detailed arguments and recommendations,” SPA representatives noted, “the Ministry declined to adopt many of our suggested changes.” The independent academic body emphasized the importance of ongoing dialogue within the education sector to ensure the legislation effectively addresses the needs of universities and research institutions. The meeting occurred as MASH was finalizing the draft legislation, which has been a subject of ongoing debate within the academic community.
Further details regarding the specific proposals rejected by MASH are expected to be released by SPA in the coming days.
