Iran Seizes Two Ships in Strait of Hormuz

Iranian authorities announced Wednesday that they had seized two ships in the Strait of Hormuz, according to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The IRGC stated the vessels were stopped due to suspected attempts to depart the waterway without authorization. The ships involved were identified as the MSC Francesca, which the IRGC described as an Israeli-owned vessel, and the Epaminodes.

According to the IRGC’s account, the ships were attempting to “leave without permission” by manipulating navigation assistance systems. This action was characterized as endangering maritime safety and an effort to “exit secretly” from the strait. The IRGC’s navy confirmed that the vessels have been transferred to Iranian territorial waters for cargo inspection and documentation.

The IRGC has not released further details regarding the investigation. The incident occurred in the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, a key waterway for global trade. This action raises ongoing concerns about maritime security in the region.
