Iran Reaffirms Strait of Hormuz Closure Until U.S. Blockade Lifted

Tehran – Iranian parliamentary speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf stated on Wednesday that the country will not reopen the Strait of Hormuz until the United States lifts its naval blockade. Ghalibaf, also Iran’s chief negotiator, asserted the blockade constitutes a “flagrant violation of a ceasefire,” fundamentally undermining any potential for a peaceful resolution.

Speaking on X, Ghalibaf emphasized that the reopening of the strait is “impossible amidst a flagrant violation of a ceasefire.” He reiterated that Iran’s military actions have not achieved their objectives and will not be achieved through coercion. According to reports translated from Iranian media, Ghalibaf called for recognizing the rights of the Iranian people as the “only way forward.” The comments follow ongoing tensions surrounding Iran’s naval activities in the region. While a separate statement from the Iranian president was reported in English, the core message regarding the continued closure of the strait remains consistent: Iran will not allow the waterway to be utilized as long as the U.S.

maintains its blockade. The statement highlights the critical importance of the strait to Iran’s economy and regional influence.
