A senior Iranian negotiator has warned that the recent Israeli attack on the suburbs of Beirut could jeopardize diplomatic efforts aimed at securing a ceasefire and ending the regional conflict with the United States. Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf, the Speaker of Iran’s Parliament, strongly criticized both Israel and the US following the incident. In a statement posted on the X platform, Ghalibaf asserted that the attack in the Dahiyeh area of Beirut demonstrated a failure by the US to uphold its commitments.
He accused both Washington and Tel Aviv of employing what he termed a “good cop, bad cop” tactic, stating, “By giving the green light to the Zionist regime, you cannot expect concessions. The game of good cop, bad cop is outdated.”
These comments emerge amid ongoing diplomatic negotiations, during which Iran maintains that any comprehensive agreement must include Lebanon, citing Israeli actions against the militant group Hezbollah. Separately, an Iranian official reported that Iran will not produce nuclear weapons.
Adding to the regional tension, a deputy commander within Iran’s joint military command warned that Israel’s “crimes” would not go unanswered. US media reports indicated that Israel had notified the US military in the region shortly before executing the strike near Beirut. The escalation has raised concerns that heightened tensions in Lebanon could further complicate efforts to achieve a regional ceasefire.
