Janevska: We are taking measures to keep young people.

Education Minister Janevska Addresses Declining Pupil Numbers

Skopje – Education and Science Minister Vesna Janevska addressed concerns regarding a decrease in the number of pupils attending primary schools across North Macedonia today. Responding to recent data released by the State Statistical Office, Janevska attributed the shift to evolving government policies and a growing return of people to the country. Specifically, Janevska referenced observations of an influx of immigrants, noting that while not substantial, this trend is becoming increasingly apparent.

This response followed the commencement of construction for a new primary school in the Gjorçe Petrov area. When questioned about the statistical decline, Janevska emphasized a long-standing concern. “Even prior to our administration, we consistently highlighted the slight reduction in the birth rate within North Macedonia,” she stated.

“Unlike the previous government’s approach, our administration is actively implementing measures to address this situation and encourage population growth.”

Janevska indicated that the situation is demonstrably changing, suggesting a proactive response to demographic shifts within the country. The focus, she stated, is on supporting families and fostering a stable environment for the future.

  1. “It’s concerning to see fewer students enrolling, and I hope the government’s plan will effectively address this trend.”
