LSDM: The government has created new debt of 2.5 billion euros while taking no action on increasing the minimum wage

The opposition LSDM has leveled accusations against the current government, alleging that the administration is deteriorating the nation’s economic stability and causing a decline in the standard of living for its citizens. Renata Mlladenovska, a member of the LSDM Executive Council, stated that the national budget is in a critical financial condition, noting that the planned annual deficit has already been surpassed. According to Mlladenovska, the government has created new debt amounting to 2.5 billion euros.

She contended that this debt accumulation occurred without securing adequate funding streams necessary to support key areas, including increases to the minimum wage, support for the agricultural sector, and general needs of the populace. Mlladenovska further detailed the opposition’s stance on labor economics, arguing that the minimum wage must be automatically adjusted in synchronization with the cost of living, prevailing inflation rates, and the average wage. She asserted that wage increases should directly correlate with price rises and that any increase in corporate profits necessitates a corresponding rise in worker wages, framing this as a fundamental right.

The LSDM emphasized that the economic policies enacted by the government have failed to provide necessary safeguards for citizens. The opposition continues to advocate for systemic changes to ensure that fiscal management prioritizes equitable distribution of wealth and sustainable economic growth over accumulating unbacked debt.
