Major operation in Ankara – 209 people arrested before the NATO summit

In anticipation of the NATO summit scheduled for April 7–8 in Ankara, and following previous reports of local detentions and protests, a large-scale security operation took place across multiple locations on the morning of the announcement. The Ankara Public Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that arrest warrants had been issued for 241 individuals suspected of connections to various organizations. During the coordinated action, 209 people were subsequently arrested.

According to the official announcement, the operation was executed by the Ankara Police and the Gendarmerie Command as part of an investigation aimed at uncovering alleged activities by terrorist organizations operating at the national level. The individuals who were arrested are reportedly suspected of having ties to numerous groups, including ISIS (DAESH), DSİH, TKP/ML, TKİP, MLKP, DKP/BÖG, DHKP/C, and THKP/C. Among those detained was Yıldız Tar, identified as the editor-in-chief of the media outlet KAOS GL.

The sweeping operation underscores the authorities’ stated focus on dismantling perceived national-level organizational links. The deployment of multiple law enforcement agencies in Ankara suggests a significant scope to the ongoing investigation into domestic security concerns. The details provided by the Prosecutor’s Office outline a broad sweep targeting multiple affiliations simultaneously.
