Mercedes expands factory in Hungary to double production and add new models

Mercedes-Benz has announced a substantial investment of one billion euros (approximately 1.14 billion dollars) to significantly expand its Hungarian manufacturing facility in Kecskemét. This expansion aims to double the production capacity of the plant, a move the German automaker stated is a response to intensifying global competition in both technology and cost management. The upgraded Hungarian factory will be responsible for manufacturing the forthcoming electric C-Class model.

Following the expansion, the Kecskemét site will become Mercedes-Benz’s largest facility within Europe and its second-largest globally. Company officials indicated that this increased scale will provide greater operational flexibility, allowing the Mercedes brand to better adapt to fluctuating market conditions. According to the Hungarian government, the investment is projected to boost the annual vehicle capacity by 350,000 units.

Furthermore, the expansion is expected to create 3,000 new employment opportunities in Kecskemét. Previously, the Mercedes-Benz operations at the location employed nearly 5,200 people as of the end of May. The doubling of production capability underscores the company’s commitment to maintaining a significant manufacturing footprint in the region amid heightened industry rivalry.
