Minister Muja announces reforms in food safety according to European standards.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development intends to release a national handbook before the year concludes. This document will concentrate on conforming to European Union regulations concerning food safety and animal well-being. It will detail specific timelines and the relevant organizations accountable for implementation, and will be accessible to the public.

Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Tourism, Armend Muja, unveiled this initiative today at the International Conference entitled “The Role of EFSA in Supporting IPA Countries on Their Path to EU Food Safety and Animal Health Standards.” The conference was hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development and the Albanian Union of Veterinarians, alongside the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). During his presentation, Minister Muja highlighted a forthcoming overhaul of the inspection system. This transformation is projected to occur within twelve months, shifting away from traditional, procedural controls.

The focus will be on ensuring compliance with EU food standards. Muja’s announcement underscores the government’s commitment to aligning national practices with European regulations, ultimately bolstering food security and animal health within Albania.
