Mural titled “Moment” unveiled in Drenas in honor of the survivors of violence during the war

The mural titled “Çast” was recently unveiled at the Center for the Promotion of Women’s Rights (QPDG) in Drenas. This significant artwork is the result of a collaborative effort between the Jahjaga Foundation and the Municipality of Drenas, and it is dedicated to honoring the survivors of violence endured during the last war in Kosovo. The unveiling ceremony brought together numerous dignitaries and community members.

Attendees included the Mayor of Drenas, Ramiz Lladrovci, the Italian Republic’s Ambassador to Kosovo, Maurizio Antonini, former President of Kosovo, Atifete Jahjaga, representatives from the Jahjaga Foundation, the leader of the QPDG, Kadire Tahiraj, alongside various institutional representatives, activists, and local citizens. According to a statement issued by the Municipality of Drenas, the purpose of the “Çast” mural is to serve as a powerful symbol of remembrance, respect, and solidarity. Specifically, the piece commemorates the resilience of survivors who faced sexual violence during the conflict in Kosovo.

The initiative underscores a commitment within the community of Drenas to acknowledge past traumas and support recovery efforts. By commissioning this public artwork, the organizers aim to ensure that the memories and experiences of the survivors remain visible and acknowledged within the public sphere. The unveiling marks a concerted effort by local organizations and international partners to promote healing and advocate for the rights of women within the region.
