Murder of tourist in Ksamil, Turkish citizen in court: Vata told me I was hit by a motorcycle

The Saranda Court has handed down sentencing in a case involving the murder of 20-year-old Portuguese national, Luis Miguel Varela Mendes. Sokrat Vata has been imprisoned by the court in connection with the death. Additionally, Ezgi Parlak and Nuh Mahmutoglu, two turkish citizens who were involved in the attempt to remove the victim by vehicle, have also been jailed.

In separate rulings, Ildi Cekani and Ardit Kasemi were both subjected to a 45-day house arrest. Meanwhile, five other individuals—Luciano Seferin, Moisi Matushajn, Romeo Shehun, Murat Zhabina, and Kristo Kosho—were placed under a judicial requirement to appear before the police. During the proceedings, Vata admitted to the crime, stating before the judge, “I don’t know how I hit him; I ask for forgiveness from the tourist’s family.” Further testimony was provided by Nuh Mahmutoglu, a turkish national who was reportedly known to Vata due to his cooperation in accompanying tourists.

Mahmutoglu testified that Vata contacted him around 6:30 AM that morning and requested his accompaniment. The rulings reflect the court’s determination regarding the circumstances surrounding the murder. The sentencing details delineate varying degrees of culpability among the accused parties involved in the incident concerning the Portuguese national.
