Only 13 countries in the world have clean air – three of them are in Europe.

Only 14 percent of cities globally now experience clean air, a significant drop from 17 percent recorded in the previous year. This concerning trend is highlighted in the newly released Global Air Quality Report 2025, compiled by IQAir, a Swiss pollution monitoring company. The report analyzed data from 9,446 cities spanning 143 countries, regions, and territories.

The findings reveal a worsening global air quality situation, largely attributed to human-induced climate change, as detailed in an Euronews article relayed by Telegrafi. Specifically, the year 2025 saw a marked decline in air quality. Wildfires played a crucial role, particularly in Europe, where the worst wildfire year on record resulted in extensive fires across the continent.

Dust storms and other intensified extreme weather events, fueled by the continued burning of fossil fuels, further exacerbated the problem. The overall quality of air remains a serious global concern, demanding immediate attention to mitigate the detrimental effects of pollution. The data underscores the urgent need for action to improve air quality and protect public health.
