Former Minister Nikollovski Summonsed for Investigation
The Ministry of Interior (MUP) has confirmed that former Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Economy and Deputy Prime Minister Ljupčo Nikollovski has been summoned for a formal meeting with the Economic Crime and Corruption Unit in Skopje (SPB). The summons was issued last week, on May 7th. The MUP stated that ongoing activities are being conducted as part of the investigation.
Mr. Nikollovski is currently suspected of violating the Public Procurement Law in relation to public procurement processes undertaken during his tenure as minister. The investigation centers around allegations of abuse involving approximately 800,000 euros.
This summons follows reports from farmers who allege harm resulting from payments made through the Ministry. These concerns were previously raised in the context of disputes surrounding ministry-issued funds. Earlier this month, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski indicated that he possessed a “feeling” regarding the situation.
The investigation into the activities of the former minister, Nikollovski, remains ongoing, with the MUP stating further details will be released as appropriate.
