The research indicates that frequent consumption of high levels of processed foods substantially increases the likelihood of fertility issues for men, notably prolonging the time it takes for couples to conceive. Researchers determined that men adhering to a diet abundant in ultra-processed foods – encompassing items like industrial bread, sugary treats, pastries, fried foods, and salty snacks – face around a 75% heightened risk of subfertility.
This condition signifies that prospective parents require a longer period to achieve pregnancy compared to those with a more well-rounded dietary intake. The study, undertaken at Erasmus University in Rotterdam, involved 831 women and 651 men participating in fertility treatment programs. The findings underscore the importance of dietary choices for reproductive health.
The research strongly suggests that limiting the intake of these foods can positively influence fertility outcomes. The study’s results emphasize the connection between the types of foods consumed and the success rates of couples attempting to conceive.
