Perparim Rama, the Mayor of Pristina, announced the completion of a new entrance ring road connecting the capital city to Gjilan. According to Rama, the infrastructure project, which is designed to improve circulation and ease access for residents entering Pristina from the direction of Gjilan, is now finished. In a statement posted to Facebook, Rama confirmed the road’s completion, highlighting its role in facilitating smoother daily commutes and regional connectivity.
However, the announcement also contained a clarification regarding governmental jurisdiction. While acknowledging that the Municipality of Pristina realized the construction, Rama asserted that the project’s nature places it under the purview of the central government. Specifically, Rama emphasized that because the new road segment is situated on a designated highway, its maintenance and oversight fall under the competencies of the Government of Kosovo.
He noted that despite the physical completion by municipal efforts, the highway classification dictates central government responsibility. This declaration underscores a recurring administrative discussion concerning infrastructure ownership within the region. The development of the road is framed as a significant local achievement aimed at improving urban flow into Pristina.
Nevertheless, Rama’s comments serve to formally place the project within the context of national highway management, thereby engaging the central government in the discussion of its long-term responsibility.
