Former Kosovo Parliament Member Expresses Concerns Over Political Negotiations
Kosovo political figures are expressing reservations regarding the ongoing impasse between the Vetëvendosje Movement (VV) and the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) concerning the election of a president and the formation of a potential governing coalition. Ilir Deda, a former member of the Kosovo Parliament, has voiced questions about the lack of apparent political consultations leading to the current situation. Deda raised concerns about whether discussions had occurred regarding the selection of a president for Kosovo or regarding the possibility of a joint government between VV and LDK.
He stated that conversations about a potential alliance should have commenced earlier in the year. “Did we have consultations regarding the election of the president or for a governing coalition?” Deda wrote on Facebook. “Discussions for a VV-LDK joint government could have taken place in January and February.
Then, discussions for the president/a could have been held and that topic could have been concluded.”
The former parliament member’s comments come amidst ongoing negotiations following Prime Minister Albin Kurti’s recent statements. The focus remains on securing agreement for the election of a president and establishing a stable government within Kosovo. The situation highlights the challenges facing political parties in reaching a consensus on key leadership and governance matters.
