Abdominal Stones Remain a Significant Health Concern in Kosovo
Abdominal stones represent a prevalent health issue in Kosovo, with estimates suggesting that one in every three individuals may be affected by this pathology. This was highlighted by abdominal surgeon Arbër Morina during the 71st episode of the podcast “Health in the First Place,” presented in partnership with United Hospital. Dr.
Morina emphasized the critical issue of patient awareness, noting that many individuals are unaware of the presence of stones until advanced stages. “Ninety percent of diseases are present in the body without being known, until the moment they give clinical symptoms,” he explained. The surgeon attributed the primary drivers of stone formation to lifestyle and dietary factors, particularly a diet high in fat content.
He stressed the importance of early detection and management of these conditions. Dr. Morina’s comments underscore the need for increased public education regarding abdominal health and the potential for symptoms to develop without initial recognition.
Further research and preventative measures remain a priority in addressing this widespread health concern within Kosovo.
