Russian Defense Ministry: Largest Ukrainian attack yet, 12 regions hit

Reports indicate a major escalation in military activity following a large-scale overnight attack targeting twelve Russian regions, including Crimea. The Russian Defense Ministry stated that its air defenses intercepted 660 Ukrainian drones, characterizing the assault as the largest to date. This action followed a declaration by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who announced a “40-day impact operation” aimed at pressuring Russia to negotiate an end to the conflict after diplomatic efforts had stalled.

Damage reports from the Russian side included a destroyed home and an injured woman in the Tula region, south of Moscow. Additionally, facilities in Novomoskovsk, including a chemical and hydroelectric power plant, were reported to have been struck and engulfed in flames. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin confirmed that 47 Ukrainian drones were intercepted en route to the capital.

Conversely, Ukrainian officials reported significant damage across multiple civilian infrastructure points in Kyiv, Odesa, and Sumy. Furthermore, regional authorities reported that Russian forces had conducted strikes using guided aerial bombs and drones against Kharkiv and sixteen other areas within the Ukrainian region, resulting in two reported fatalities and seven injuries over the previous 24 hours. The Ukrainian Air Force claimed to have intercepted 174 of 189 Russian drones used in the recent aerial operations.
