“Safe City” cameras have recorded over 100,000 violations in five months

Over a five-month period, the “Safe City” monitoring system in Macedonia has recorded a total of 101,834 traffic violations. Data spanning from February 2 to May 31, 2026, indicates that the frequency of recorded violations has shown a consistent month-over-month increase since the project’s implementation. The monthly breakdown of these infractions shows a rising trend, with counts of 19,066 violations in February, 26,241 in March, 28,033 in April, and 28,494 in May.

Analysis of the violation types reveals that the most significant infraction category relates to excessive speed. Violations for driving a vehicle at a speed exceeding the allowed limit accounted for 70,365 instances. Other notable violations included 2,519 instances of operating a vehicle with an expired circulation permit, and 456 recorded instances of running a red light.

The cumulative data provides a quantitative overview of road safety compliance within the monitored city area. While the system aims to enhance the safety of the city, the high volume of recorded violations underscores persistent adherence issues among drivers. These figures highlight that speeding remains the primary concern addressed by the “Safe City” initiative.
