Serbian national arrested on the Skopje–Gevgelija highway, driving at 221 km/h

The Ministry of Interior of North Macedonia reported the arrest of a Serbian national following a high-speed incident on the Skopje–Gevgelija highway. Authorities stated that the individual was apprehended near the village of Miletkovë after a radar unit detected the vehicle traveling at an excessive rate. The driver, identified as M.S., aged 60, was operating a BMW bearing Serbian license plates.

Police reports confirmed that the vehicle was clocked traveling at a speed of 221 kilometers per hour. This reading was taken on a section of the highway where the posted speed limit is 120 kilometers per hour. Consequently, the driver was found to be exceeding the legal limit by 101 kilometers per hour.

Following the detection of the excessive speed, law enforcement initiated a stop. Upon confirmation of the violation, the vehicle was subsequently seized by authorities. The Serbian national was taken into custody and escorted to the local police station.

The incident highlights the enforcement efforts regarding vehicular safety standards across North Macedonia’s major roadways. Officials emphasized that the measured speed represented a significant deviation from the established safety parameters for the route.
