Stunning views in Dragash: Soil reaches up to 3 meters in Restelicë

Snowdrifts Persist in Dragash Despite May Weather

Remarkable images have emerged from the Municipality of Dragash, Kosovo, where significant snow accumulations remain despite it being May. Ornithologist Burim Piraj has documented substantial snowdrifts in the Gorica valley, specifically in the village of Restelicë, with drifts reaching approximately three meters in height, as captured in video and photographic evidence. Piraj reported that efforts to clear the road have already commenced, utilizing an excavator to address the section connecting the area with North Macedonia.

The work aims to facilitate access through the affected zone. Snowfall during the spring months is not uncommon in Dragash due to the region’s high altitude and prevailing climatic conditions. However, the persistence of these drifts is noteworthy.

The Kosovar Hydrometeorological Institute has issued a forecast for Monday, predicting minimum temperatures within the Municipality of Dragash to fall below zero degrees Celsius. These conditions are expected to further complicate the ongoing snow removal efforts. The situation is being monitored closely, with the substantial snowdrifts – measured in meters – presenting a logistical challenge.
