Suzuki is adjusting its expansion strategy for the United Kingdom in anticipation of the Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) mandate’s impact. The company plans to introduce a new electric city car priced under £20,000 by 2027, alongside boosting sales of the existing Swift hatchback. Furthermore, a third electric vehicle is scheduled for release in 2029, demonstrating a phased commitment to electrification.
David Kateley, the UK Head for Suzuki, who assumed his position last January, has overseen a strategic refocusing of the company’s efforts in response to the mandate. According to Telegrafi, Suzuki intends to increase sales of the eVitar, the brand’s initial electric vehicle offering, while simultaneously capitalizing on the continued popularity of the Swift supermini. The company’s sales focus is specifically directed toward private buyers within the UK’s central regions.
Kateley stated his confidence in the current approach, noting, “I believe in the controlled focus. The mandate is here and we all want to help the environment. We are embracing it.” This multi-faceted plan positions Suzuki to meet evolving regulatory requirements by gradually expanding its electric portfolio.
The introduction of successive electric models, coupled with existing popular models, underscores the brand’s commitment to growing its presence in the electric vehicle market within the UK.
