The 26th Book Fair edition opens, calling for more readers to the venue

The 26th Book Fair in Pristina commenced today, scheduled to run for five days at the Rilindja Palace. The opening ceremony highlighted the enduring significance of reading as a cultural cornerstone. During the event, acting president Albulena Haxhiu addressed the importance of literature, noting that the temporary display of books in public areas affirms the continued value of the written word.

However, she cautioned that this recognition must be accompanied by a critical examination of the current state of reading and the role books play in contemporary life. Haxhiu emphasized the transformative power of reading, stating that it serves as a primary mechanism for expanding an individual’s understanding of the world beyond personal experience. She elaborated that attentive reading develops crucial cognitive skills in children, enabling them to track arguments to their conclusion and identify core concepts.

Furthermore, she stressed that reading fosters intellectual curiosity, encouraging readers to question assumptions, compare different viewpoints, and resist accepting definitive conclusions without thorough consideration. The book fair thus serves not only as a marketplace but also as a platform for civic dialogue regarding literacy and the enduring relevance of the printed word across the coming days.
