The budget for the Mediterranean Games sparks clashes among deputies in commission

Proposed €250 Million Budget for “Pristina 2030” Mediterranean Games Faces Debate

A proposal for a significant budget allocation – exceeding €250 million – has been presented to parliament and the Minister of Sport and Youth concerning the “Pristina 2030” Mediterranean Games. The initiative has generated considerable discussion and exposed significant divisions within the Culture, Tourism and Sport Commission. The core of the debate centered on an amendment introduced by LDK MP Adelina Thaci-Meta.

Her proposal advocated for dedicating at least 60% of the total budget to the Prishtina Municipality, the primary host city for the games. According to Thaci-Meta’s plan, these funds would be specifically designated for “the construction, renovation, improvement, and development of sporting heritage, training spaces, and transport infrastructure” located within Prishtina. The proposed budget represents a substantial investment in the upcoming Mediterranean Games.

The commission meeting underscored the complexities surrounding the allocation of resources for the event, highlighting differing perspectives on prioritizing investment within the host city. Further discussion and negotiation are expected as the proposal moves forward.
