Trepça Sh.A. Demolition in North Mitrovica Sparks Municipal Concern
Following the demolition of numerous buildings constructed without authorization in the vicinity of the prison in northern Mitrovica, the Municipality of North Mitrovica has expressed strong concerns regarding the actions taken. The demolition was carried out by Trepça Sh.A., with support from the Kosovo Police, as part of the broader release of the Trepca land.
Municipal officials stated they received no prior notification or consultation from Trepça Sh.A. concerning the intervention. At a press conference, Mayor Milan Radojevic characterized the action as unilateral and criticized the denial of the municipality’s legal competencies over local public land.
“As you are aware, this conference has been called due to the unlawful demolition of garages this morning by Trepça,” Radojevic stated. “You are aware of the case, you were also on the ground, you saw what happened.”
The Municipality of North Mitrovica maintains that the demolition undermines its authority and raises questions about the oversight of land management within the region. Further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the event is expected.
The incident has heightened tensions in Mitrovica, specifically within the north municipality.
