The conflict in the Middle East, Bytyqi: Has not yet impacted drug prices, problems remain due to shortages at the SHSKUK.

The ongoing instability in the Balkans has, so far, had no immediate effect on drug costs within Kosovo. Kadri Bytyqi, head of the Kosovar Pharmacists’ Chamber, explained in a conversation with Ekonomia Online that the security situation hasn’t directly influenced medication prices. However, significant difficulties persist due to ongoing shortages at the SHSKUK healthcare facilities.

Bytyqi clarified that while there hasn’t been a current impact, the possibility remains, particularly concerning imports. He stated, “I believe we are monitoring the situation closely, and presently there is no direct impact.” He emphasized that the re-evaluation of drug prices scheduled for this year will reveal any potential consequences. These pharmaceutical companies involved in import and distribution are key to observing any changes.

Bytyqi acknowledged that the situation is being tracked, but the primary concern remains the persistent lack of certain medications within the healthcare system. The challenges continue to be centered around securing sufficient supplies for patients.
