Accused Appear in Court Over 2018 Assembly Gas Incident

A hearing took place at the Basic Court in Pristina on Thursday concerning the incident involving the release of gas within the Kosovo Assembly building. Fitore Pacolli Dalipi, Salih Zyba, and Drita Millaku were present as accused individuals. They face charges related to the detonation of gas cylinders that occurred between 12:10 PM and 3:40 PM on March 21, 2018.

During opening statements, the defense of Salih Zyba, represented by lawyer Hasan Jashari, argued that political actions do not constitute a criminal offense. Jashari asserted that the actions taken within the Kosovo Parliament were employed to achieve a specific political objective. “The tactic used by Mr.

Zyba, does it enter the group of weapons, therefore the expert has an obligation to give an opinion and a finding regarding this issue and not to make an interpretation of legal provisions and to show if he is guilty,” Jashari stated. The defense maintains that the focus should be on a factual assessment of the situation rather than a legal interpretation of the events. The court is currently examining the evidence in the case, which centers around the deployment of gas within the Assembly.

Further proceedings are expected as the investigation continues.
