The death of Cvetković, a case reminiscent of Milan Vukashinović: Eight months injured and in custody

The recent death of Serbian journalist Stefan Cvetkoviq, who was known for his investigations into the killing of politician Oliver Ivanović in Kosovo and for raising concerns regarding inadequate medical treatment during detention, has brought renewed focus to the ongoing case of Milan Vukashinović. Vukashinović has been held in Serbian custody for eight months while reportedly in poor health. The circumstances surrounding Vukashinović’s injury on November 1, 2025, in the village of Jellashçe in Leposavić, remain officially unclear.

According to his family, Vukashinović was abducted by masked and uniformed individuals, whom they suspect are members of the Serbian Gendarmerie. Following the abduction, he was allegedly transported to Serbia without his family’s knowledge or consent. Serbian media reports indicate that his sister, Ivana Vukashinović, has provided details concerning the events leading to his detention.

The attention surrounding Cvetkoviq’s death has prompted renewed scrutiny over Vukashinović’s status. Advocates and family members are calling for transparency regarding his medical care and the conditions under which he has been held in custody. The unresolved nature of the abduction and subsequent detention forms the core of the current case, drawing parallels between the concerns raised in Cvetkoviq’s work and the treatment of Vukashinović.
