The LDK is concerned about AGK’s reaction to Abdixhiku’s language: Freedom of the media does not exclude criticism of it.

The Democratic League of Kosovo has voiced its worries regarding the Kosovo Journalists’ Association’s approach to criticism of the media. In a public statement, the LDK stresses the importance of freedom and expression as core tenets of a democratic society. These values must be supported by open discussion and scrutiny of the media.

The party firmly believes that freedom of the press is a fundamental right. However, they equally emphasize that the freedom to critique the media is equally vital. The LDK finds it concerning that the KJA has instead of seriously engaging with raised concerns, opted for political labeling.

Specifically, the LDK highlighted the unacceptable and dangerous language used by KJA member Abdixhiku concerning the media. The LDK argues that the KJA’s response has been inadequate. They believe the association should prioritize addressing issues of professional standards and public accountability within the media landscape.

Maintaining a robust and independent media requires both the freedom to report and the freedom to hold the media accountable. The LDK insists that these two elements must work together to ensure a healthy and vibrant media environment within Kosovo.
