The Municipality of Dragash has issued a clarification regarding plans for a new landfill, responding to objections raised by residents of the village of Rrënc. According to the municipality, the proposed facility is strictly designated for the reception of inert construction debris, rather than general municipal waste or materials deemed hazardous to human health or the environment. Officials stated that the operational scope of the landfill will be limited to accepting materials such as earth, gravel, concrete, bricks, and other construction residues.
The plan asserts that the construction will adhere to established regulatory standards and incorporate necessary infrastructure to ensure controlled operation. Furthermore, the municipality emphasized that the project aligns with broader municipal planning objectives, aiming to curb the practice of illegal waste dumping in undeveloped areas. Conversely, the Self-Determination Movement Center in Sharr has voiced support for the concerns put forward by the residents of Rrënc.
This stance indicates continued local apprehension regarding the proposed site and the handling of various types of waste materials. The differing perspectives highlight a divergence between the municipal planning requirements and the community’s environmental concerns regarding the facility’s intended use and impact.
