The non-grata declaration of Igballë Berisha, Lamallari: I do not hesitate to do the same thing as others

The Minister of the Interior of the Republic of Albania, Besfort Lamallari, addressed the status of Igballe Berisha, who has been designated a “persona non grata” by the state. In a social media post, Minister Lamallari stated that the measure should not be applied solely to the individual, but rather to all foreign nationals attempting to promote agendas deemed undesirable within Albania and contrary to the European spirit. Lamallari asserted that he would extend such measures to any other persons who are not Albanian citizens but are involved in agendas detrimental to Albania’s interests.

According to the Minister, these activities are not in the national interest and are, conversely, detrimental to Albania’s progression toward European integration. The Minister emphasized that the focus of such actions is on protecting the nation’s stability and its commitment to European standards. He suggested that the actions of certain groups threaten the country’s trajectory.

The legislator further indicated that the protest activities being observed are not aligned with the goals of the state. The remarks suggest a firm stance from the Interior Ministry regarding the management of foreign influence. Lamallari’s statements imply that any non-Albanian resident or visitor promoting interests contrary to national goals will face similar governmental scrutiny.

The official communication frames the designation of “persona non grata” as a necessary tool to safeguard the country’s sovereignty and its alignment with international European norms.
