The number of newborn babies in Macedonia has dropped by 1.3%

In 2025, the total recorded number of births reached 15,932. Of this total, 15,850 were documented as live births, with 82 instances recorded as stillbirths. State Statistical Office data indicates that the number of live births in 2025 represented a 1.3 percent decrease when compared to the figures from 2024.

Regarding gender distribution among the live births, males constituted a higher proportion, accounting for 51.7 percent, or approximately 106.9 male births for every 100 live female births. Analyzing the timing of the births, April registered the highest number of live births, totaling 1,531. When examining maternal demographics, the largest proportion of live births—31.7 percent—originated from mothers within the 25-29 age bracket.

Overall, the average age of mothers across all recorded births was 29.8 years. For first-time mothers, the average age was slightly lower, reported at 28.2 years. The data provides a clear picture of the volume and demographic trends associated with the live births during the year.
