North Macedonia Approves Deployment of Soldiers to EUFOR-ALTHEA Mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina

The Parliament of North Macedonia today ratified a decision to send 32 soldiers to participate in the EUFOR-ALTHEA peacekeeping mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH). The vote, held after a session attended by 102 deputies, saw 78 in favor of deploying the soldiers for a six-month period, commencing in May and concluding in November. The decision, formally approved by parliament, outlines that financial resources for the operation – encompassing transportation, salaries, wage compensation, and logistical support – will be provided by the Ministry of Defense.

This marks the annual renewal of the EUFOR-ALTHEA mission, which was established in 2004 following a transition from NATO’s involvement. The EUFOR-ALTHEA mission focuses on maintaining stability and security within BiH. The operation is subject to renewal with approval from the United Nations Security Council.

North Macedonia’s contribution represents a continued commitment to international peacekeeping efforts within the region. The deployment of these soldiers is intended to support the ongoing mission objectives.
