Rare Relic Theft Reported from Czech Church

Jablonne v Podjestedi, Czech Republic – Police are investigating the theft of a 800-year-old skull from the Church of Saint Lawrence and Saint Zdislava in Jablonne v Podjestedi, approximately 110 kilometers north of Prague. The relic, believed to be that of Saint Zdislava of Lemberk, was taken Tuesday evening. Security camera footage shows a figure wearing dark clothing fleeing the church carrying what authorities have identified as the skull.

The image is currently blurry, offering limited detail about the suspect. Saint Zdislava of Lemberk, who lived from 1220 to 1252, was a revered figure known for her charitable works and dedication to the poor. She was formally canonized by Pope John Paul II in 1995, significantly increasing the value and importance of the relic.

“This is a devastating news,” stated Archbishop of Prague, Stanislav Pribyl, speaking to CTK news agency. The skull was a focal point of veneration for pilgrims visiting the church. Police are continuing their investigation and appealing for information regarding the theft.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and recover the stolen artifact.
