Prizren Residents Targeted by New Banking Scam via SMS

The Kosovo Police has issued a warning regarding a burgeoning scam affecting residents in the Prizren region. Citizens are being targeted through deceptive SMS messages, prompting concerns about fraudulent activity. According to a notice from the Regional Police Directorate in Prizren, individuals have received alarming messages claiming their bank accounts are at risk of being blocked unless immediate action is taken.

These messages typically contain a suspicious link, directing recipients to a website where personal and banking details are requested. Following this, unauthorized individuals gain access to bank accounts and illicitly transfer funds. The police have identified perpetrators operating internationally, resulting in the arrest of two individuals in Pristina and Suhareke.

Authorities have confiscated over 48,000 euros linked to the scam. The police are emphasizing that this is a fraudulent operation and are urging citizens to exercise extreme caution when receiving unsolicited SMS communications. Residents are advised to verify any such messages directly with their financial institutions before clicking on any links or providing personal information.

Investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend further individuals involved in this scam.
