Helicopter Crash Kills Eight in Borneo, Indonesia

A helicopter carrying eight people crashed in the dense jungles of Borneo, Indonesia, resulting in fatalities. The incident occurred Wednesday as the Airbus H130, operated by PT Matthew Air Nusantara, was traveling between plantations. The helicopter lost contact five minutes after departing from the Melawi district in West Kalimantan province, with its destination being a palm oil plantation in the Kubu Raya district.

Search and rescue efforts, coordinated by the National Search and Rescue Agency and the Ministry of Transportation, subsequently located the wreckage and remains of two crew members and six passengers within the Sekadau district. One of the deceased was identified as a national of Malaysia. Investigations are underway to determine the cause of the crash.

Indonesia, a nation comprised of approximately 270 million people across its extensive archipelago, has experienced previous transportation incidents, including aircraft and helicopter accidents, as well as maritime sinkings.
