New Guard Established to Combat Environmental Crimes on Earth Day
Prishtina, Kosovo – In observance of Earth Day, two ministers formally established the Nature Protection Guard today, aiming to bolster efforts against environmental crimes within Kosovo. The initiative was announced by the Interior Ministry and the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning. The memorandum outlining the guard’s formation was signed by Interior Minister Xhelal Sveçla and Environment Minister Fitore Pacolli, with Prime Minister Albin Kurti also present at the signing.
The Nature Protection Guard will operate in conjunction with the Kosovo Police. According to the Ministry’s statement, the guard will comprise environmental activists, mountaineers, fishermen, nature photographers, and volunteers. Their role will be to actively protect the environment and contribute to preventing and effectively combating environmental crimes.
The primary objective of the new unit is to strengthen institutional mechanisms dedicated to the protection of nature. The initiative reflects a commitment to addressing environmental violations and reinforcing safeguards for Kosovo’s natural resources. The formation of this specialized unit underscores a renewed focus on environmental protection within the government’s strategy.
