Two new members have been elected to the Kosovo Judicial Council following a recent meeting. Alban Maxhuni, who serves as an overseeing judge at the Basic Court in the Mitrovica-Vushtrri branch, and Valentina Sopjani, a judge at the Basic Court in Pristina, were elected with ten votes in favor. These appointments see them replacing the outgoing members, Deputy President of the Kosovo Judicial Council, Arjeta Sadiku, and judge Fidan Hoxha.
During the meeting, Chairman Rrustem Thaçi confirmed the details of the election process. He stated that the election results for the new members of the Judicial Council, drawn from the judiciary comprising judges from the Basic Courts, Commercial Courts of the First Instance, and Administrative Courts, were unanimously certified. The mandate period for these new members has been formally established.
According to Chairman Thaçi, the term of service for Alban Maxhuni and Valentina Sopjani will commence on April 8th and conclude on April 7th, 2031. The election process underscores the ongoing structure of the judiciary within Kosovo. The selection of these new members is a procedural update to the council’s composition.
The council plays a key role in overseeing judicial matters across the country. The confirmation of these appointments ensures the continuity of judicial oversight, integrating the expertise of the newly elected officials into the council’s operations for the coming years.
