Kosovo Police reported discovering suspicious, unexploded ordnance on two separate occasions during recent patrols within the Gjakova area. The incidents highlight ongoing safety concerns regarding residual explosive materials in the region. According to the Kosovo Police’s 24-hour operational report, the first discovery took place in the village of Koshare in Gjakova.
A police patrol unit encountered a suspicious, unexploded device while conducting routine patrols through the local forest. Upon notification, the specialized FSK demining unit was dispatched to the site. Personnel from the unit assessed the threat and subsequently carried out a controlled detonation of the material to neutralize the hazard.
Later the same day, a second incident was reported in the Bujar Koka Area of Gjakova. An individual reported finding another suspicious, unexploded device while traversing fields in the vicinity. Authorities responded to secure the area and confirm the nature of the ordnance.
These separate discoveries underscore the persistent risk posed by unexploded remnants of conflict materials across the region. Police officials continue to urge residents and patrols to exercise extreme caution and report any suspicious items immediately to local law enforcement. The consistent deployment of specialized demining units remains crucial for mitigating potential dangers to the public in both rural and semi-urban sectors of Gjakova.
