House Resolution Backs Kosovo’s NATO Membership
Washington D.C. – Three U.S. congressmen, Keith Self, Ritchie Torres, and Mike Lawler, have introduced a resolution in the House of Representatives advocating for strong support for the integration of Kosovo into the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
The proposed measure emphasizes the compelling case for Kosovo’s potential membership, citing several key factors. The resolution asserts that the Democratic government of Kosovo, coupled with civilian oversight of its security forces and a commitment to multi-ethnic coexistence, warrants serious consideration within the alliance. It argues that, given the ongoing destabilization efforts by opposing forces in the region, incorporating Kosovo into NATO would provide a crucial counterbalance to deter hostile actions.
Specifically, the document states that this inclusion would help prevent “another global catastrophe in the Balkans.” The resolution underscores the importance of bolstering stability within the region. Currently, the resolution notes that four NATO member states – Greece, Romania, Slovakia, and Spain – have not yet formally endorsed the prospect of Kosovo’s accession. The full text of the resolution, introduced by the congressmen, is expected to be debated within the House.
