A Ukrainian man was reportedly detained in connection with the 2022 bombing of the Nord Stream gas pipelines. According to reports, the individual was apprehended while working on the set of a Hollywood film dramatizing the attack, which stars Adrien Brody and Sean Penn. Police in Pula, Croatia, took the Ukrainian man, Volodymyr Zhuravlyov, into custody on Wednesday.
His arrest followed the issuance of a European arrest warrant by Germany, which is pursuing his extradition. German prosecutors allege that Zhuravlyov is a trained diver and accuse him of providing assistance in placing explosives on the Baltic Sea energy link connecting Russia and Germany. The detonation destroyed three of the four pipelines in 2022.
German legal publications confirmed that the man was arrested while on location for the upcoming film, “Snake Island.” The charges brought by German authorities focus on his alleged involvement in the sabotage of the natural gas infrastructure. The investigation continues as German prosecutors seek his transfer to face charges related to the significant energy incident.
