Data released on Friday by the Ministry of Labor confirms a continued trend in the labor market, showing a notable decrease in registered unemployment figures for June. The total number of unemployed individuals fell by 28,739 compared to May, bringing the overall figure to 2,291,982. According to reports, this low level of unemployment has not been recorded since January 2008, a period preceding the global financial crisis.
The reduction in joblessness was not uniform across all economic sectors. The services sector accounted for the majority of the decrease, reporting a drop of 28,498 unemployed persons, a decline attributed partly to the commencement of the tourist season. Other sectors also showed improvements, including industry, which saw a reduction of 2,829, and construction, which reported a decrease of 1,326.
Agriculture experienced a smaller, yet positive, reduction of 384 individuals. However, the report also highlighted an area of concern, noting an increase of 4.29 in the count of previously employed individuals. This metric contrasts with the positive downward trend observed in the primary unemployment statistics.
Overall, the figures suggest significant labor market tightening, marking the lowest level of unemployment recorded in many years, a benchmark not reached since january 2008.
