A recent comparative practical tour conducted by “Go Green” highlighted the efficiency of various transportation methods within the capital. Specifically, the tour observed that utilizing the train offered a significantly faster commute compared to the bus along the same route, taking approximately five minutes to travel from Maxhraj to the central area of Skopje. Building on this observation, local authorities have announced the imminent operation of an urban train system.
This service is slated to commence on January 1, circulating along the route connecting Zelenikovë, Draçevë, Lisiçe, and the Skopje Railway Station. Furthermore, the city’s public transit infrastructure is set for further expansion with the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project. This major initiative is anticipated to enter its implementation phase next year.
The planned BRT route will begin at Karposh 4, traverse through Partizan, Rekord, and the Olympic Pool, before terminating at Novo Lisiçe and continuing toward Maxhraj. The Macedonian Railways expressed confidence in the timely completion of these necessary procedures. Officials indicated that both the new rail services and the BRT projects are expected to proceed according to established plans, aiming to enhance connectivity throughout Skopje.
