US military releases footage of attacks on Iran

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) released a black-and-white video on social media, which the command states depicts an attack that occurred in Iran the previous night. The publicly available video shows explosions and rising plumes of smoke, although the specific target of the incident cannot be clearly identified. This marks the first reported US military action against Iran since the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two nations.

The agreement, also known as the Islamabad Declaration, was signed by former US President Donald Trump and his Iranian counterpart, Masoud Pezeshkian. The MOU stipulated an immediate and permanent halt to military operations in all conflict zones, including Lebanon. Furthermore, the agreement mandated the lifting of the US naval blockade on Iranian ports and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz for unimpeded commercial navigation.

Under the terms of the MOU, the United States committed to issuing temporary permits for Iranian oil exports to the global market and initiating procedures to unfreeze Iranian assets held overseas. This memorandum establishes the political framework for ongoing negotiations, which are scheduled to conclude within 60 days with a comprehensive peace accord. This final agreement is expected to address outstanding issues, including the status of the Iranian nuclear program.
