US: Strait of Hormuz is More Europe’s War

Defense Secretary Criticizes Allies’ Response to Iran Threat

Washington – U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has expressed significant concerns regarding the level of support from European allies in the ongoing efforts to counter Iran’s activities. Speaking at a Pentagon press conference, Hegseth stated that the United States is utilizing the Strait of Hormuz, emphasizing that “this is much more their war than ours.”

Hegseth clarified that the U.S.

is not dependent on European assistance, asserting that “they need the strait, and particularly the Hormuz, much more than we do.” The comments follow months of military operations initiated on February 28, during which President Donald Trump has repeatedly voiced criticism of NATO members and other allies for a perceived lack of engagement. The focus of potential military action remains the head of the Revolutionary Guard, a consistent target of American strategy. Hegseth underscored the strategic importance of the strait, highlighting its critical role for global trade routes.

He reiterated the administration’s position that the situation represents a primary concern for European nations, and that the U.S. is prioritizing efforts directly related to safeguarding access through the strait. The Secretary emphasized the need for greater collaboration to address the challenges posed by Iran’s activities in the region.
