USA mobilizes troops to help Venezuela after devastating earthquake

The U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM), which manages American military operations across Latin America and the Caribbean, has announced the mobilization of assets to assist Venezuela in the aftermath of a recent earthquake. Reports indicate that the relief effort is underway, with visual documentation showing troops loading equipment onto transport aircraft, specifically a Chinook, at Soto Cano Air Base in Honduras.

In coordination with the international response, U.S. Marine Corps Major General Kevin J. Jarrard arrived in Caracas today.

His mission is to oversee the Department of War’s support efforts aimed at aiding Venezuela following the disaster. The deployment underscores a coordinated military response to the crisis. While the full scope of the assistance is being organized on the ground, preliminary reports concerning the earthquake in Venezuela suggest a significant humanitarian challenge.

Authorities have reported initial estimates of approximately 235 fatalities, alongside at least 4,300 individuals who sustained injuries. The presence of U.S. troops and senior leadership in the region aims to streamline and coordinate the necessary relief supplies and personnel.

SOUTHCOM’s involvement signals a commitment to supporting stability and recovery efforts across the region impacted by the natural disaster in Venezuela. The focus remains on ensuring that aid reaches those most affected by the earthquake.
