The data indicates that roughly fifteen percent of young job seekers have attended interviews accompanied by their parents.

Furthermore, twenty percent of these individuals reported that their parents had proactively contacted employers on their behalf. This evolving practice, often referred to as “copilot careers,” represents a modern adaptation of what’s commonly known as helicopter parenting. The intention behind this level of parental involvement is to facilitate young people’s transition into the workforce.

However, psychologists caution that this approach may ultimately prove detrimental. They suggest that while parents are trying to help their children, this intervention can be harmful. It’s important for parents to understand the potential negative consequences of excessive involvement in their children’s job search endeavors.

The goal is to empower young people to independently navigate the complexities of finding employment.
