A gathering of representatives from various far-right European political parties convened in Belgrade, following an invitation extended by Misha Vaciq, a convicted far-rightist and co-founder of the Serbian Nationalists Party. According to reports, the conference featured speakers from Italy, Spain, and Greece, among others. The rhetoric presented during the event focused on several key themes.
Speakers articulated sentiments supportive of Russia while maintaining a critical stance toward the West. Furthermore, the discussions frequently contained messages directed against migrants and against participants in anti-government protests within Serbia. During the proceedings, comments were also made that targeted the Roma community, people of color, and the LGBT community.
Additionally, several speakers disseminated narratives that were pro-Russian and explicitly opposed to the recognition of Kosovo’s independence. When questioned by Radio Free Europe (RFE) regarding the nature of the messages heard at the gathering, the Ministry for Human Rights and Minorities did not issue a formal response. The event highlighted the spectrum of views held by these far-right groups, who consistently voiced positions against international norms and concerning minority groups.
The attendance and statements from these political figures raise questions concerning the ideological alignment of those who participate in such international forums.
