‘Yemen’s Spider-Man’ dies after falling into volcanic crater

Al-Kaka Ibn Antar, known for extreme climbing feats, has died after falling into a deep volcanic crater in southern Yemen. Authorities reported that the 30-year-old adventurer was climbing the steep walls of the Hardah Dam, located in the Dale province, when he lost his footing. According to the Civil Defense, Antar fell into a fissure estimated to be about 120 meters deep.

Video footage released by the agency showed him scaling the steep rock face without any safety equipment. Following the fall, rescue teams, including divers, were dispatched to the site. The search and recovery operation lasted four hours, described by Civil Protection as complicated due to the rugged terrain.

Divers eventually located his body at a depth of approximately 30 meters below the water’s surface. The Hardah Dam itself is noted as a unique natural attraction, featuring a large crater and a hot sulfur lake at its base. Antar had previously gained significant social media attention for documenting his dangerous climbs in remote Yemeni areas.

In response to the incident, Civil Protection issued a warning to all individuals involved in adventure sports and climbing. They emphasized the necessity of adhering to safety regulations and utilizing appropriate protective gear to prevent similar accidents.
